What makes our pre-test coaching different
There is a big difference between being able to drive and being ready to pass a UK driving test. The DVSA test rewards specific habits — deliberate mirror sequences, controlled speed on approach, defined observations at closed junctions and clean, low-speed manoeuvres. Our test preparation programme is built around those habits and around the two Southampton test centres, so nothing on the day is a surprise.
Every pre-test learner works from a personalised checklist derived from our mock-test marking and your own instructor feedback. Instead of another generic lesson, each hour targets your specific weaknesses — the roundabout you drift on, the parallel park you rush, the tell-me question you can never remember. This is why our pre-test block is so effective in such a short time.
Maybush and Forest Hills — the difference
Maybush (Wimpson Lane, SO16 4PT) routes push you through Millbrook, Lordshill and Redbridge — a heavy diet of residential junctions, meeting-traffic situations on Coxford Road, and the Redbridge / A35 roundabout that catches out lane discipline. Faults here are usually about observation and gear choice.
Forest Hills (Brownhill Way, SO16 8LS) routes head towards Rownhams, Nursling and the M27 slip road at Junction 3. Expect faster A-road driving, country lanes with blind bends, and mini-roundabouts around Rownhams Lane. Faults here are usually about speed adaptation and priority decisions.
Read our full local guide to Southampton driving test routes for more detail. Your pre-test block will focus on whichever centre your test is booked at, and we will drive every commonly-used route at least once at test pace.
Manoeuvres, show-me / tell-me and independent driving
Every pre-test lesson covers a DVSA manoeuvre — parallel park, forward bay park, reverse bay park or pull up on the right — at the actual bays and streets examiners use around each centre. We drill show-me and tell-me questions until they are automatic, and rehearse independent driving using both satnav and traffic signs on the specific stretches the DVSA use. Nothing on test day feels like the first time.
Test-day and re-test support
On the morning of your test we offer a one-hour warm-up drive and, if you prefer, use of our car for the test itself — a car that is familiar to Southampton examiners and known to drive well on every route. If a test doesn't go your way, bring the examiner's debrief sheet to us and we will design a short, targeted recovery block — most re-test learners need just two to four hours before rebooking with confidence.

Frequently asked questions
How many pre-test lessons do I need?
Most learners benefit from a focused block of 6–10 hours in the fortnight before the test, on top of ongoing lessons. We tailor it around your mock test performance.
Do you cover both Southampton test centres?
Yes — Maybush (Wimpson Lane, SO16 4PT) and Forest Hills (Brownhill Way, SO16 8LS). We know every route from each.
Can I use your car for the test?
Yes. Our modern, dual-controlled, fully insured manual car is available for the DVSA practical test and is well-known on both Southampton test routes.
What if I fail my test?
You get a full debrief from your examiner — bring it to us and we will build a targeted recovery block, usually just 2–4 hours, to fix the specific faults before your rebook.
How much is test preparation?
Test preparation lessons are £40 per hour with block-booking discounts. Combining a mock test with a prep block is the most popular package.
